Plants used during pregnancy, Childbirth and Postpartum Healthcare in Palestine, Nablus.

Abstract

The growing use of medicinal plants and utilization in the treatment of various diseases significantly in different parts of the world. This is due to several reasons, including to popular belief that the plant medicines are safer than drugs manufactured. The world is witnessing a growing interest in studying these plants for use in treating diseases. Palestine is famous for its wealth of plant species with therapeutic properties which have long used for a long period of time and it is unique, diverse in its geographical and cultural characteristics and cultural and medicine from the traditional Palestinian Arab, and in particular herbal medicine and the use of various medical treatment. This study provides a systematic review of traditional Arab medicine used for the care of pregnant women and newborn. Resulted in feeling the need for this study because of lack of studies of medicinal plants used in pregnancy and the postpartum period and also used to care for newborn. The present study aimed to: examine the current status of herbal medications used in pregnancy and the birth, and for the newborn in the city of Nablus; and determine the types of plants used in them, and assess the importance of treatment in folk medicine. The study included field trips is concentrated in the town of Nablus city, and to conduct interviews with individuals who have included the study in order to obtain information on the plants, which they use for the care of a pregnant woman and baby. The study included women, doctor of herbs and herbalists. The number of types of medicinal plants mentioned 25 types. The following plants more commonly used as medicinal plants: White sage, Anise, Cinnamon Tree, Caraway.
