Abstract
This study was conducted to investigate the prevalence of neural tube defect in the West Bank of Palestine . It is the first study of the prevalence of this rare disease established in the west Bank.
Data were collected randomly from 30 specialists who represented the sample of the study.
After analyzing the related data, using the ring Sector Program, the results revealed that the highest number of patients were suffering of spina bifiba cystica with ratio of 60% , then spina bifida occulta and Myelomeningocele with ratio 20% for each.
The results also revealed that the main cause of NTD is usually folic acid deficiency (80% of cases), in addition to chemicals chemotherapy , mutation, drugs like antiepileptic drugs.
Based on the results of the study, the researchers suggested that similar studies be conducted in the future about this disease, also the Ministry of Health should focus on patients suffering from this disease by building
