Date:
Wed, 20/04/2011

On April 20th, under the auspices of An-Najah University President, Prof. Rami Hamdallah, the Faculty of Science at the University inaugurated its Seventh Scientific Exhibition at the New Campus. Attendees to the inauguration ceremony included several An-Najah vice presidents, president assistants, faculties’ deans, heads of departments, directors of the University’s scientific centers, in addition to Mr. Bashar Al-Suluh, representative of Palestine Cellular Communications Company (Jawwal), as well as several members of the academic and administrative staff and students.

Prof. Hamdallah first thanked all those who contributed to the success of this exhibition including the staff and students of the Faculty of Science. Moreover, he said that the University’s administration offers all kinds of support to the Faculty in different fields and mentioned that this exhibition introduces new theories in education to visitors; he added that the University seeks, through this event, to transfer the practical experience from the University to the schools. He also invited all schools in the West Bank to visit this exhibition to take a look at what the science students can offer.

On his part, Dr. Sulaiman Khalil, Dean of the Faculty of Science, gave a speech in which he valued the support offered by the University President and the Board of Trustees which help organize numerous scientific activities on campus. He also thanked the Faculty’s staff and students for the efforts they exerted to bring about such unique scientific production being displayed at the exhibition.

Through participating in such events, students can develop and enrich their experience and will motivate them to continue their scientific production. Dr. Khalil called upon all the educational and governmental institutions in Palestine to encourage students and people to visit the exhibition as it has the potential to expand their knowledge and experience.

After that, the participants in the inauguration took a tour around the different corners of the exhibition where they were introduced to the students’ projects which they described as impressive and promising. The exhibition will display different scientific projects made by students from the different departments at the Faculty of Science. The Medical Tests Department will present different types of medical tests during the exhibition’s period including: blood and sugar tests, blood group tests, blood pressure measurement, microscopic display of blood cells and bacteria, measurement of height and weight, models of bacterial cells, in addition to a scientific play

The Department of Biology, however, will present a group of scientific experiments including: photosynthesis in plants, a model of a greenhouse and its uses, genetic engineering and cell culture.

The Departments of Physics and Chemistry will also present a number of experiments in a variety of subjects. Physics students will display experiments on the preparation of oxygen, perfumery, measurement of salts concentration, detection of calcium in water, coating aluminum and others.

Students of Chemistry, meanwhile, will be presenting a number of experiments on energy preservation, Newton’s Second Law, atmospheric pressure, static electricity, in addition to tens of other experiments that will be featured during the days of the exhibition.

The students of the Faculty of Science expressed their pride and satisfaction towards what they have achieved so far in this exhibition; they also thanked the University’s administration and the Faculty’s staff for their continuous support of the faculty’s students and their projects.

The scientific exhibition is held once every two years and is considered one of the initiatives in which the Faculty of Science participates which aim to develop higher education in Palestine. The exhibition will continue until Saturday noon, April 23rd.
