Date:

Saturday, November 6, 2010
On November 6th 2010, the Palestinian Science Fair was inaugurated by the University President, Prof. Rami Hamdallah, as well as Prof. Maher Abu Eid, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ali Habayeb, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Sulaiman Khalil, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Dr. Maher Abu Zant, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, and Mr. Benoit Tadie, Counselor of Cooperation and Cultural Affairs at the French Consulate General in Jerusalem.

The President and his guests visited the different corners at the Fair and were impressed by the uniqueness of the students' projects and the scale of work that was carried out to create such projects. The guests were also amazed by the way students' executed the projects and many new ideas that the items contained which would be used to facilitate the learning process and enhance the quality of the Palestinian education system.

The Fair consisted of a number of corners some of which were dedicated to the projects of science students at the University which include a variety of projects on educational methods. Those methods focused on different topics in the field of science for school students such as density experiments, transforming water into oxygen, microscope-facilitated experiments, cars' remote control and others.

In addition to the abovementioned, the Fair also included a number of tests such as tests of blood levels, sugar, blood groups, blood transfusion, test of plants' medical extracts, and finally the use of biotechnology in agriculture, industry and in protecting plants against viruses.

The Fair also included a corner for Alnayzak for Supportive Education and Scientific Innovation where students displayed projects which focused on critical and innovative thinking and aim to promote scientific and creative thinking mechanisms among students and children. The corner also featured a number of films and the distribution of brochures that summarized the results of the students' studies that were part of the "Young Researcher" project at Alnayzak.

The third corner was organized by the French Ministry of Exterior and included scientific boards on astrophysics as well as a scientific experiment that was supervised by students from Chatenay-Malabry University in France. The experiment was focused on measuring the lungs' breathing efficiency.

Dr. Khalil suggested organizing the Fair on an annual basis in order to display more projects and present new ideas to the public. This will give more students the chance to present their creative ideas and discuss their projects with the professionals and experts in the different fields of science from local and international institutions.
